Ms. Barbara Ann Sims was born to the late A.C Sims and the late Reverend Bernice
Sims of Toccoa, GA, June 25, 1940. Barbara was a member of Mount Zion Baptist
Church in Toccoa GA. She was in the class of 1958 at Whitman Street School in
Toccoa. Barbara graduated from Boricua College in New York, New York.
Barbara was the President of Amvets Post 600 Auxiliary for several years in Toccoa, GA.
Under her leadership she would enter a group of young girls into the Christmas parade.
The community always looked forward to seeing the group in the parade.She worked for
NorthEast Georgia Legal Aid as a client.advocate . Barbara spent a-lot of her adult
years in Brooklyn, New York, while living there she was a part of several organizations,
and worked as a community advocate. Barbara truly loved her family and enjoyed
spending time with them. She loved to travel, and spend time with family and friends.
She has one son who preceded her in death, Lamar Calvin Gober (Carmen). She
leaves to cherish her memories, three children Jamel Sims (Kirsten), Franklin Sims,
and Ashley Wallace (Christopher). One sister Mozell Copeland of Lithonia, GA. Six
grandchildren; Olivia Gober Allen, Trinity Sims, Khaliyah Sims, Brianna Turman,
Rhianna Turman, Teyeanna Pittman, Kingston Sims, Rion Bowman, Aubreeahna Sims,
Kameron Sims). She has three great grandchildren;Steven Avery Allen , Xander Lamar
Echols, and Georgia Rayne Echols. Barbara has one nephew Steve Sims Sr. and one
niece Dr. Patricia Copeland-Poteat. She has three great nephews Steve Sims Jr
(Ashannon), Anthony Sims (Recca), and Davian Oglesby, and Benjamin Poteat.
Barbara also has two great nieces Jasmine Poteat and Kayla Poteat. She has two great
great nephews Amir Sims and Khalil Sims She has one great -great niece Jordyn Sims.
She has a God-daughter Ruthie Byrd-Johnson, and a host of relatives and friends.
