Frederick “Freddie” Lee Major was born in New York on November 16, 1948. He was the son of the late John and Geneva Major. He was brought to Toccoa, Georgia at an early age in the caring and loving hands of the late Lena Wilson.
Freddie attended the former Whitman Street School. In his early years, he was employed with the Railroad, Singers Furniture Company, Toccoa Steel Foundry, and later retired from Stephens County High School.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Michael Major, Woody Dunbar (Joan), Robert Major (Betty), Raymond Major, and Barnard Major
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Shirley Major (Poole), of Alabama; Sons Kerry “Butch” Major (Sheila), Terry Major (Sharon), and Dyron Major all of Toccoa, Georgia; Daughter Omega Pulliam (Major) of Alabama; Sisters Doris Major and Sheila Graves (Gerald) both of Anderson, SC.; Fifteen grandchildren and Twenty-one great grandchildren; Sisters-in-law Betty Major of Toccoa, GA. and Joan Dunbar of South Carolina; Brothers-in- law Anthony Poole (Judy) of Toccoa, Ga and Paul Poole (Katrina) of San Antonia, Tx and Gerald Graves (Sheila) of Anderson, SC.; Dinesha Wilhite, Shamika Wilhite, Antjuan Wilhite, Queen Wilhite, and Devonte Wilhite all of Toccoa, GA whom he raised as his own; and a host of loving and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Many thanks to a special cousin Chanel Ridley and to a special friend Tyrone Banks both of Toccoa, GA.
On Thursday, March 9, 2023, God called his son home from Northeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, GA surrounded by his family.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
