On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, God called Velma Brown Ridley home to rest. She was born on May 20, 1935, in Stephens County, Georgia. Velma was the daughter of the late Arthur D. and Gertrude Scott Warren.
Velma was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist. She was a member of the Usher Board and the Busy Bee club. She enjoyed working with the children at Mount Zion. Helping the children attending vacation bible school gave her great joy and satisfaction. She was a member of the Homecoming Committee and the Family Life Center Committee.
Velma retired as a supervisor from Habersham Plantation Furniture Company after many years of faithful service. Velma completed the Family Specialists Parent Academy program at San Antonio College Continue Education.
Velma was an active voice in the community. With her devoted friend, David (Big Timer) Neal, they attended many Toccoa City Council meetings. Voicing their concerns about issues affecting our community. She was a member of the Toccoa Improvement Association.
Velma was united in marriage to the late James Sampson Ridley on June 16, 1986
Velma was preceded in death by nine siblings: Margaret W. Carvin, Ola Sue Moon, Willie Mae Smith, Eufala Davis, Robert Warren, Arthur Warren, Bel Zora Melvin, Juanita W. Jarrett, and Thomas N. Warren. She was preceded in death by her devoted son, Teddy Lewis Brown. I know he was there to welcome her home.
